Borovik-Poizat Rank and Stability
نویسندگان
چکیده
Borovik proposed an axiomatic treatment of Morley rank in groups, later modified by Poizat, who showed that in the context of groups the resulting notion of rank provides a characterization of groups of finite Morley rank [Poi87]. (This result makes use of ideas of Lascar, which it encapsulates in a neat way.) These axioms form the basis of the algebraic treatment of groups of finite Morley rank undertaken in [BN94]. There are, however, ranked structures, i.e. structures on which a BorovikPoizat rank function is defined, which are not א0-stable [BN94, p. 376]. 2-sylow Theory for Groups of Finite Morley Rank
We explore 2-Sylow theory in groups of finite Morley rank, developing the language necessary to begin to understand the structure of such groups along the way, and culminating in a proof of a theorem of Borovik and Poizat that all Sylow 2-subgroups are conjugate in a group of finite Morley
متن کاملSimple Groups of Finite Morley Rank of Odd and Degenerate Type
OF THE DISSERTATION Simple Groups of Finite Morley Rank of Odd and Degenerate Type by Jeffrey Burdges Dissertation Director: Professor Gregory Cherlin The present thesis aims to drive Borovik’s program towards its final endgame, and to lay out a plan for bringing it to a conclusion. Borovik’s program is an approach to the longstanding Algebraicity Conjecture of Cherlin and Zilber, which propose...
متن کاملGenericity, Generosity, and Tori
Bruno Poizat is associated, among other things, with broadening the scope of the theory of groups of finite Morley rank to the level of stable groups [P87], in keeping with the general trend of the development of model theory from Morley to Shelah. But this has not prevented him from taking an active interest in such aspects of the theory as are associated more particularly with the case of fin...

متن کاملA new trichotomy theorem for groups of finite Morley rank
The Algebraicity Conjecture for simple groups of finite Morley rank, also known as the Cherlin-Zilber conjecture, states that simple groups of finite Morley rank are simple algebraic groups over algebraically closed fields. In the last 15 years, the main line of attack on this problem has been the so-called Borovik program of transferring methods from finite group theory. This program has led t...
